Challenges
We run a wide variety of national competitions covering ages 7 to 19. Competitions are an excellent way of engaging students and adding extra excitement to engineering activities. All our competitions are free to enter and we will always try to assist with accommodation and travel costs for competition finalists. We offer advice and support to competition entrants to give them the best possible chance of success.

Challenge - Airbus Project Eggs Factor (7-18)
Sponsored by Airbus, this challenge asks you to build a model aircraft that safely carries its passenger - the egg – for the greatest flight distance possible. Open to schools, youth groups and families, this challenge tests every part of your engineering capabilities, we don’t want an egg splat we want an eggsemplary landing! Link
Challenge - Royal Navy Operation Wave Rider and BAA Plane Park and Ride (Ages 11-19)
Our National Sponsors, the Royal Navy and the BAA, run annual national challenges for all ages. They base their challenges on real problems faced by their own engineers. Teams of students must submit design solutions which are scrutinised by the organisations’ engineers, who then select teams to go ahead and develop their designs, which they then bring to an exciting national final.
Club Showcases and Club Awards (Ages 7-19)
Clubs have the opportunity to celebrate their year’s achievements at our Regional Club Showcases and take part in an ‘on the spot’ engineering challenge. These events are primarily a celebration of achievement where everyone’s efforts are recognized. Clubs attending the event will be considered for a place at the National Club Awards where exemplary clubs from all over the country compete for the crown of Club of the Year. The individuals who make our clubs such a success can also get recognition through the Club Network Leadership Awards.
The Young Engineers Club Network
The Club Network supports the setting up of extra-curricula engineering clubs and enriches the activities of existing clubs. If you run, or want to run, any kind of extra-curricula engineering related activities, you are eligable to join our network!*
We act as an information hub providing details on all the quality UK youth engineering initiatives available. The network is FREE to join largely due to the generous support of our sponsors.
The Benefits of membership
Young Engineers Club Activities count towards the skill section of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and students have also found it useful subject matter at university interviews! See our Success Stories section and Find Out More About Clubs in Our Network. We also know of several Young Engineers Clubs that have also had a positive mention in school Ofsted reports!
