Pecking Birds

For the younger students - see how toys are designed using the computer, watch the manufacturing process, then assemble a working toy.

Card £2.50:

MDF £4.00 per pupil                     KS 1 & 2

INTECH Flyer Challenge

Using either the pre-marked plane design or a blank sheet of A4, it's your challenge to create a plane that's going to out fly all the others.

Planes are launched from the 'Plane Factory Launcher' to ensure fairness!

Different design briefs for different stages.

£2.50 per pupil                           KS 1 - 4

K'NEX - Building Challenges

A variety of Challenges can be set using the components in the kits provided.

For example:

1) Design and make a bridge which spans 50 cm and is capable of supporting 1 kg.

2) Design and make a vehicle which travels the fastest and furthest after descending a specified incline.

£3.00 per pupil                          KS 1 - 4

'STIKA' Designs

Design and make your own signs using 2D Design and the vinyl cutter.

Durable and weatherproof signs can be made for outside using the larger machine.

£3.00 per pupil                           KS 1 - 4

Turtle Power

See how Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and Manufacture (CAM) works. Build a cam operated Turtle from the components provided. The head moves via a mechanical link with a cam on the back wheel. No tools are needed for the final assembly, just attention to detail and patience.

£6.00 per pupil                           KS 2 & 3

Radio INTECH

Choose from a series of Radio Workshops starting with the basic construction of an AM radio. Additional opportunities are to design and make a cover and working with radio amateurs to listen in on world radio.

Specialist workshops are also possible.

£13.00 per pupil                         KS 2 - 4

Time to make a clock

As an introduction to the world of manufacture, designing and making your own clock provides an insight into how CAD/CAM and mechanics can combine.

Different design briefs for different stages.

£4.50 per pupil                           KS 2 & 3

Parts of a Flower

Using Intel microscopes, 1 between 2, explore the names and functions of the different parts of the flower.

£3.50 per pupil                           KS 2 - 3

MEASUREMENT & DATA LOGGING WORKSHOPS

Our "Dataharvest" sensors can measure current, voltage, temperature, sound intensity, pressure, force, time, distance, velocity,  reaction times, heart rate, light intensity, infra red and relative position and more….

Use data capture equipment to take measurements from INTECH exhibits and around the INTECH building or at your school.

Introduction to Datalogging

Download the information onto a computer, plot graphs and interpret the results.

£3.50 per pupil                           KS2 - 5

Scientific Enquiry using Data Logging

Question, predict, collect evidence and discuss your findings. Draw your own conclusions and evaluate your results.

£3.50 per pupil                           KS 2 - 3

Dynamics Systems Measurement

Investigate dynamic systems using the sensors and our special tracks.

Key ideas: Velocity, acceleration, momentum, the effects of collisions.

Workshops can be tailored to specific curricular objectives.

Cost – variable                           KS 3 -5

Discovery SE – bringing science to life in primary schools

A series of 6 part sponsored workshops focusing on "Scientific Enquiry", enabling children to explore and understand concepts in an exciting way. Activities are based on national curriculum criteria for science, ICT and D & T and deliverered in schools for single days or whole weeks.

Control Technology

Programme a barrier using Lego DactaTM and use traffic lights and control sensors to control cars as they enter a car park.

Discounted Cost £1/head          upper  KS 2

Pneumatics & Hydraulics

Explore pneumatics and hydraulics with your own self-built balloon buggy or pop bottle water rockets.

Discounted Cost £1/head           KS 2 (KS 1 with assistance)

Structures

Construct experimental structures. Use these skills in a challenge to design and build a vehicle, tower or bridge using Brio or KNex the tallest and strongest tower using K’NexTM.

Discounted Cost £1/head          Brio  KS 1, KNex KS 2

Data Logging

Measure and record temperature, sound and light levels around your school. Display the data collcted on a computer as graphs for analysis.

Discounted Cost £3.50/head               KS 1 & 2

Forces and Gravity

Complete the egg drop challenge to explore gravity and air resistance. Investigate magnetic attraction and repulsion and forces that push, pull and twist.

Discounted Cost £1/head           KS 1 & 2

Electrical Circuits & "Circuit Detectives"

Become a Circuit Detective – find out what is wrong with and repair electrical circuits. Draw circuit diagrams and symbols to help your investigation.
